Yeah! Got to get’s me one of these!! And there’s also John Acquaviva and Paris, the Black Fu. Rumour has it that there is also a Mad Mike Banks one as well.
Reading the article about “Fashion-core” that Nik linked to, it kind of made me feel old that “hardcore” no longer means early nineties UK rave breakbeat or mid-nineties Rotterdam gabber and that it has gone back to one of the first uses of “hardcore” to describe music that I heard. Actually it also made me feel old because I’ve actually witnessed a term for music change over the course of more than a decade.
I bought myself a nice Standard TM Glove for my ThinkPad T40. Its a neoprene cover for your laptop. Its actually designed for Apple Powerbooks and iBooks (not that I wouldn’t like one) but they seem to have enough stretch in them to accomodate my ThinkPad. A great solution if you don’t want to have some dorky-ass laptop bag and already have something you like that mightn’t necessarily be for a laptop.
Cisco Records in Japan have some soundbites up of the new Kenny Larkin album “The Narcissist” and Moodymann’s “Black Mahogani” both on Peacefrog. Also Submerge currently has in just about every Transmat and Fragile record ever released.
Is it really that hard to come up with an original name guys?
From some dumbass reason, when St George Bank made upgrades to their online banking system earlier on in the year, they managed to break just about every browser except for a small selection of Internet Explorer versions and one version of Netscape Navigator. Luckily for users of Mozilla browsers its as easy as changing your user agent string.
In your prefs.js file you’ll just need to add user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 [en] (Windows NT 5.1; U)");
to it. Solution courtesy of a SLUG list member.

Last night I burnt up a CD-R with DreamSNES, a nice Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulator for the Dreamcast. Busted out some Super Mario World, R-Type III and Super Ghouls and Ghosts. Fun fun! I wasted a few blank CD-R’s in the process though. Must rememeber this forum topic over at DC Emulation for burning Dreamcast CD’s under linux.
I’m also currently got a Dreamcast VMU, Keyboard, Mouse and extra game controller on order. Now all I’ve got to find now is a Broadband Adapter and I’ll have a nice cheap web terminal for the TV room.

From SMH.com.au:
A German cat weighing six times the normal weight is so fat that it cannot take more than four steps without getting exhausted. Now officials at a Berlin animal shelter are having trouble finding a new owner for six-year-old Mikesch, after it was taken away from his elderly owner.
My Mum’s cat Jesse clocks in at around 10kg and looks pretty similiar to that German cat. He has lost some weight since my Mum got another second cat named Jake though. I’ll have to get some shots of Jesse sitting around the house and put them up. He sits up with his legs spread like he’s watching the footy or something. Most amusing 😆
A copy of Neil Ollivierra’s unpublished book Reality Slap is currently being hosted over at the Emotion Electric site in PDF format.
From The Milk Factory:
“Neil Ollivierra described the early days of the Detroit movement in Reality Slap, a book he never officially published, but which gained near cult status in the Motor city. The book focuses on his life as a socialite, as well as the rise of Detroit techno, and his involvement with Derrick May and the Transmat label.”
For some reason (well I guess its only version 0.5), but in Mozilla Thunderbird under Linux, there’s currently no simple way of setting your default browser. To set it, you have to update your user.js
file with this setting:
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/path/to/browser");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "/path/to/browser");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp", "/path/to/browser");

Now this sounds like my kind of party! (Thanks to Davo for the link on that one).
Dont think retro fashion, think RETRO GEEK! Vintage computing and gaming meets arcades and the finest local and international live acts for a night of blistering beats, acid, techno, breaks and console bleeps. Get down to the big ass bass or blister those thumbs on a NES, Atari, C64, Neo Geo or any of many other gaming flashbacks powered up and on site for those of us who were more geeking up at home then doing the John Travolta…. screw the 80’s… insert coin to play!
So now I’m in tha ‘ping (Epping y’all). I feel like I’m slowly being suffocated. I think Mum’s cats are giving the worst asthma and hayfever I’ve had in a long time (probably about 3 years). Mum wants to leave one of her cats here, but I think she’ll have to take both of them with her.
All our stuff is all around the house. Mum was under some sort of strange assumption that Rozie and I didn’t have much stuff. Hah! If you’ve been around to our house before, you’d know that Rozie and I are mad horders. With each subsequent move, we’ve thrown stuff out. But we still have heaps of junk. So now that we’re in Epping, most of our stuff is in boxes in the lounge room, with some other bits here and there. Its driving both of us batty.
Rozie had a dentist appointment in Pazzamatta today, so I went for a wander around while she got poked and prodded. I went down to the trusty Cash Converters and managed to pickup a second-hand Sega Dreamcast for $39.95 baybee. “I must be some sort of neanderfuck!”. And Soul Caliber for $10 to boot with that shiiit. Yeah. There does seem to be some sort of development community around the Dreamcast, but the MAME projects seemed to have died off. Bummer. I’ll have to find out what other games are good on the DC if I can find more for $10.
At tonight’s SLUG meeting, GNOME hacker and Planet developer Jeff Waugh is giving a talk “about Planet — a simple blog aggregator written in Python — covering the history of the project from both a social and technical perspective, the effect of Planet on the communities it has touched, an overview of blogging and aggregation, points of interest in its development history, and how a tiny FOSS project can go a long way.”
