Dont think retro fashion, think RETRO GEEK! Vintage computing and gaming meets arcades and the finest local and international live acts for a night of blistering beats, acid, techno, breaks and console bleeps. Get down to the big ass bass or blister those thumbs on a NES, Atari, C64, Neo Geo or any of many other gaming flashbacks powered up and on site for those of us who were more geeking up at home then doing the John Travolta…. screw the 80’s… insert coin to play!
Over the weekend MAME 0.80 was released. Updates and new games since 0.79 (including changes made in the 0.79u1, 0.79u2, 0.79u3 & 0.79u4) are:
Also new and worth checking out on the MAME from is m.a.w.s., which is an online database of all MAME ROM information.
MAME 0.79 was released 31th January. Of note is the changes to the memory management:
Another big memory change. [Aaron Giles]
The biggest change is the way address maps are declared in the drivers. Rather than having separate read and write address maps, there is now support for a single, merged map. In order to minimize the amount of code churn, there is currently still support for two separate address maps per address space, but they are combined into one internally early on in the memory initialization and setup.
Other changes to it are as follows:

Looks like XMAME slipped out the other day. Changes in this version are:

Currently the excellent MAME information and ROM repository MAME.dk is offline. It would appear that their web hosting company went bust.
Update 08/Dec/2003: For those of you who desperately want MAME.dk back, and can’t figure out how to find ROMs by any other means, you can either hit up Usenet (alt.binaries.emulators.mame) or hookup with a ROM burner in your area. Also other suggested reading is alt.games.mame on Usenet. Also this site looks like it could be good for getting individual ROMs.
It looks like MAME 0.77 is about to drop.
XMAME 0.76.1 finally was released on Sunday. FreshRPMS has updated RPMS for RedHat users, and also the packages for the great GTK+ based frontend gxmame has been updated to handle the changes to some of the switches which were introduced in MAME 0.74.
Also worth mentioning is a new(ish) site; MameDB. Since the demise of Mame.dk, there hasn’t been a site which has all the information on the games provided in the accessable format which Mame.dk provided. MameDB is there to fill that gap.
New games for MAME 0.76 are as follows Continue reading “XMAME 0.76.1 Released”
Usually if you want to get arcade ROM files for your arcade emulator you have to go to sites which have questionably legality. Now you can purchase ROMs legally for personal use from Star ROMs. They currently have around 60 games (all them seem to be Atari games at the moment) such as 720 Degrees, Asteroids, Gauntlet, Marble Madness and Missile Command.
A new version of XMAME has finally been released. You can grab a patch against 0.72.1 or the full tarball. I guess it should only be a matter of time when the FreshRPMs packages are done.
Changes since 0.72.1:
*sigh* My MAME collection is still sitting back at 0.71, and I haven’t had a chance to get all the updates of 0.72 and 0.73. One day. Looks like 0.74 is more of a minor update/bugfix from 0.73. According to MAME.dk the following has been added:
The Windows version of MAME can downloaded over here. Unfortunately MacMAME and XMAME haven’t been updated since 0.71 and 0.72 respectively. 🙁
